| September 2007
We did it! With the
generous help of over 150 donors, Funway Park was constructed
in July and August of 2007. We were able to raise the
funds required to install poured rubber surfacing throughout
the area. Funway Park received its finishing touches
in time for the first day of school, and the dedication
area will be completed before December of 2007. It
will contain the dedication plaque and engraved bricks.
This portion of the project was unavoidably delayed
due to an adjacent project to expand the staff parking
area.
The dedication ceremony will be held on September
8th at 11AM at Funway Park. We hope to personally thank
all our donors for the generous contributions that
made Funway Park a reality. On behalf of the children
of the Stanley School and surrounding community, THANK
YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
January 2007
The Funway Park Committee is very excited to announce
that we have raised over $130,000!!! But that’s
not all: donations are continuing to come in and every
additional dollar we raise will be put toward premium
padded rubber surfacing throughout the entire structure.
The current design features a combination of rubber
and wood mulch. We are now attempting to raise an additional
$50,000 toward this goal.
How can you help the Stanley School to build the best
playground in Waltham?
- CHATEAU NIGHT IS FEBRUARY 8TH! Dine-in or take-out
at the Chateau with the Funway Park coupon and the
Chateau will donate 25% of sales to help build Funway
Park. (coupon link)
- Donate your pennies and cans! We’ve raised
nearly $3,000 in spare change and redeemable cans.
Every little bit helps. Keep them coming!
- Buy-a-Brick. Individuals may still purchase an
inscribed brick for $100. The deadline for this is
February 28th. Contact Lisa Wise, or click to download
the form
.
- Family Movie Night is coming on March 2nd. More
details to follow soon!
More details
on the playground can be found in the Funway
Park Overview document.
November 2006
Funway Park is making great progress with many thanks
to the enormous generosity of individuals and businesses
Waltham-wide and beyond. So far we have raised over
$62,000! This means we have almost reached our revised
target of $78,000!! Special thanks go to our recent
additions to the Leadership Circle with a Bank of
America pledge of 5K and 6K donation from Gravestar
(Waltham Plaza). We are also grateful to our new Playground
Partner, Children’s Hospital,
with a $2,000 pledge.
We
firmly believe that our goal of building Funway Park
in April of 2007 will be realized, but only
with continued fundraising. We have many events planned
through March of 2007. Near-term
events include:
• Construction Site Shopping Day, November 9th
(Susan McKinney)
• Family Movie Night, November 17th (Lauren Doherty)
• T-shirt Sales (Lauren Doherty)
• Pennies for the Playground (Lisa Wise)
• Cans for the Playground (Susan McKinney)
Please contact any committee member if you have questions
about any of these events or you
have an idea for how you can help. Thank you for your
support!

Cans for Funway Park
The Funway Park Committee is collecting your recyclable
aluminum cans and bottles for their redemption value!
This will be an on-going effort through March 2007.
Over the summer, cans and bottles may be dropped off
in the colletion barrel beside Susan McKinney's garage.
(address below)
Please send your NON-ALCOHOLIC* ALUMINUM CANS AND PLASTIC
BOTTLES to school with your child. The fifth grade students
will coordinate the collection at the school. It is
greatly appreciated if the cans/bottles have been given
a quick rinse before being sent to school. The total
collected will be periodically updated and displayed
in the main lobby. Your contribution will help build
Funway Park and save the earth!
* Alcoholic beverage cans and bottles can also be contributed
by contacting Susan McKinney (susan@fffltd.com or 781.642.7893).
A collection barrel will be outside her garage at 66
Boynton Street (corner of Bedford), or arrangements
could be made for pick-up.
Pennies for Funway Park
We are happy to announce that our first Funway Park
fundraiser is underway. Pennies for Funway Park is a
great way for our children to be involved in the fundraising
process. Students (parents, teachers and administrators)
can deposit their pennies (nickels, dimes, and quarters)
in the collection bottle located in the school's main
lobby. The total collected will be periodically updated
and displayed as motivation for continued contributions.
This will be a nice way for all to see that even if
each person can only contribute a small amount, as a
group they will be making a significant contribution
toward the playground.
We encourage parents and children to think of helpful
tasks they can do around home to earn the coins they
will contribute. Please share your ideas with us - prizes
will be awarded for the most creative suggestions!

April 2006
Students Vote for Favorite Playground Pieces
During the month of April, students are voting for
their favorite playground pieces. Once we have each
classroom's vote we will tally the results and submit
our wish list to the playground committee so they can
begin design work.

February 2006
Name the Playground Contest
Thanks to all who participated in our name the playground
project contest! Congratulations to 4th grader John
Anthony Mahar for submitting the winning entry, Funway
Park. John won a $10 gift certificate to Lizzy’s
Ice Cream and he will be acknowledged in the dedication
program at the playground’s opening ceremony.
